CMG Release is the consolidated distribution of Computer Modelling Group’s reservoir simulation suite, designed for subsurface flow modeling and decision support across oil and gas, CCUS, and geothermal projects. It brings together CMG’s core simulators—IMEX (black-oil), GEM (compositional and EOR/CCUS), and STARS (thermal and advanced processes)—with supporting tools such as Builder for model setup, Results for 2D/3D visualization and analysis, WinProp for PVT and phase behavior, and CMOST AI for uncertainty, history matching, and optimization. The release is engineered for large, complex models and enterprise workflows, supporting scalable parallel computing and integration with common industry data formats.

Key capabilities:

  • Comprehensive physics for conventional and unconventional reservoirs, thermal processes (including SAGD), compositional EOR, geochemistry, and CO2 storage.
  • Advanced well and fracture modeling, including complex well controls and discrete/fracture network workflows.
  • High-performance parallel solvers for desktop, on-premises clusters, and cloud/HPC environments.
  • Analytics-driven history matching, sensitivity analysis, and automated optimization with CMOST AI.
  • Streamlined pre- and post-processing with Builder and Results to accelerate model setup, QA/QC, and visualization.

CMG Release helps reservoir and production teams predict performance, reduce uncertainty, and optimize field development by unifying robust physics, scalable computation, and practical engineering workflows in a single, regularly updated package.

CMG Release is developed by Computer Modelling Group and is used by 5 users of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 2.1.
